From offering evening classes to the local community, to teaching soldiers skills to help them find employment after the First World War, Bucks has been many things to many people. We recently celebrated our 125th anniversary and looked back on some remarkable achievements from over the years.

We may be proud of our heritage, but we’re excited about the future too. We’re working towards a vision to create an environment where innovation, creativity and enterprise flourish. We’ve already developed a partnership to inspire students in emerging technology, and have plans in place to carry on making a real difference to people’s lives.

Our past

The origins of our University stretch back to 1891. Right from the start we specialised in vocational learning, and over the years we’ve gone from strength to strength.

We want to make sure all our graduates have the skills and experiences to be able to succeed in today’s demanding and competitive world. That’s why we’ve invested more than £100 million in our facilities across our three campuses.

Dissertation helps student broaden autism understanding
A third-year BA (Hons) Film and Television Production student at Buckinghamshire New University is looking to broaden people’s understanding of autism after putting together a documentary on the condition for his dissertation.Callum Dean Callum Dean (pictured) said he was inspired by babysitting a child with Asperger Syndrome to develop Understand Autism, a 12min documentary where he has interviewed a range of people to ‘give a greater basic understanding of autism’.

Bringing World War II map-makers’ work to life
Business students at Bucks New University are helping to promote the story of a secret Second World War map-making base, codenamed Hillside, that was at Hughenden Manor near High Wycombe. Blogs designed by the students with information and stories about people who served at Hillside will feature on the Hughenden Manor website and help share some of the fascinating aspects of this period in the history of the house.Hughenden Manor work Hillside played such a critical role supporting the pilots of Bomber Command that it was on Hitler’s list of top targets during the Second World War.

Top 30: Bucks rises 90 places in student satisfaction in Complete University Guide
Buckinghamshire New University has risen 90 places to rank joint 29th in the UK for student satisfaction in the latest Complete University Guide which was published yesterday (Wednesday). Bucks is also 5th for academic services spend, which included investment in library, IT and computing facilities, and the University rose seven places to 115th in the overall ranking of 131 institutions, which continues the upward trend for Bucks seen in last year’s results.
